Shen Nung (2737-2697 BC or approximately 3700 BC) - a legendary Chinese Emperor, the founder of all medicinal maintenance of the traditional Chinese medicine, nicknamed as "Wise Man of medicine" and "King of Medicine".
According to ancient legend, Shen Nung specially sent people to every corner of the world in search of herbs, stones, and minerals, then testing their action on himself.
It is considered in China Shen Nung is an inventor of acupuncture technics. The beginning of agriculture, trade, and green tea discovery are connected with his name. In late national mythology of China Shen Nung - is one of a mythical sovereigns' triad - the patrons of medicine.
Shen Nung was the first to attempt to prove scientifically:
- the gathering, analysis, generalization and systematization of medical and pharmaceutical data on herbs and raw materials of natural origin;
- the identification of an authenticity and of a high quality of raw materials;
- the application of raw materials of natural origin.
Shen Nung - is the author of the most ancient and well-known pharmacopoeia in the world "The Shen Nung Treatise on Roots and Herbage" ("Shen Nung Ben Tsao Tszin", 3216 BC). In it, by means of straight lines located in a certain order and broken lines, there are described and classified 365 medicinal agents mainly of natural origin.
His name medal is founded by the Noncommercial organisation «Professional Association of Naturotherapists» in 2009 on purpose to note the winner of annual competition «For the best scientific work of year» in the area of naturotherapy and naturopharmacy, and in particular, in the field of standardization of medicinal herbal raw materials; workings out and perfection of techniques of quality assurance of herbal medical products and homoeopathic preparations.
The Shen Nung Medal is founded by the Noncommercial Organization "Professional Association of Naturotherapists" in 2009 with the purpose to recognize the winner of annual competition "For the best scientific research work of year" in the field of naturotherapy and naturopharmacy, and in particular, in the field of standardization of medicinal herbal raw materials; working out and perfection of quality control methods of herbal medicinal agents and homoeopathic preparations.
